Love the running as therapy post. My workouts have been amazing for my mental health. My dad died of cancer last year, leaving behind his wife of nearly 42 years, and my brother and I. What did I do? Helped care for dad, and once everyone was in bed, I worked out. Turkish Get Ups, Sit Ups, Burpees, Whip ups, Weights (if I could get my hands on them)… anything to flush the cortisol out of my system without ‘stuffing’ the emotions with food. During the day, I’d take a break and go for a run in the sunshine. My husband is an active duty submariner, which means he deploys. When he’s home, I work out, but when he’s not, I dive into my fitness even deeper, flushing out the stress and making sure I sleep at night. Running many not be my strongest suit, and I may never love it, but it’s all I can think about when I’m stressed out at my desk job. In fact, today is my “rest” day and I’m planning a short run on my lunch break…
