Woot!
Shaved 20 minutes off my PR from April!!!
So excited. This race went exactly according to plan. This was part of an 18 mile training run today, so I ran 5 miles before the race , which left me nice and warmed up for the race. It was cloudy and breezy and about 42 degrees.
So the plan was to treat the race as two 10Ks. The first 10K would be run at an 8:00 to 8:15 pace. In the second 10K I would go sub-8:00 and see what I could do. My hydration was perfect and so was my endurolyte and gel consumption. I stayed in MY pace bubble even when others went out too fast at the start. Later in the race, I had to have passed 20 people who rushed by me after the gun went off. That was nice, to be honest with ya. I went into the sub-8 zone earlier than planned but felt great. I was able to kick in in the last 3 miles and run a 6:58 last mile!!!
Finished in 1:41:55. I was 13th overall and got 2nd in my 40-49 Age Group! My first ever placing. I feel so good about my training and progress right now. And this race report would be incomplete without major thanks to Megan for training me and getting me here. Can’t thank her enough for all of this. I ran this race in 2008 in 2;48! Things have changed a little since then.
Splits:
8:07,8:01,8:04,8:04,7:44,7:57,7:58,7:43,7:42,7:36,7:37,7:26,6:58,6:49 (.10 of mile to finish)
great job Gordon. Your metamorphosis has been as stunning as it is motivating.
